I'm starting off the list with the opener to Chance The Rapper's album "Acid Rap," The most recent impact to my music taste. After hearing critical acclaim and friends suggesting I get the record, I listened to "Acid Rap" expecting some sort of trippy/psychedelic rap for club kids. I was wrong and the first song was quick to blow me off my feet. The album's moniker, Acid Rap, is a conscious reference to the music genre acid jazz, which has a devoted following in Chance's hometown of Chicago.
"Good Ass Intro" is the first song on the album. Intricately orchestrated, the song is quick to diminish the preconceived notion of drug rap with the use of an ultra jazzy beat. Chance does rap about drugs but does it in a resentful tone that complements the hook of the song stating "I'm gonna be better than I was the last time." It impacted me to set ambitions and be positive.
The physical record I own is a German bootleg copy that I ordered online from Switzerland. The discs are 180 yellow marbled vinyl.
